At Western Global, we’re committed to doing better everyday, for both ourselves and those we work with. As a global business, we understand that even the smallest improvements can have a big impact on our world, from how we empower our team, to enabling customers to work in a more sustainable way.
We’re always striving to find sustainable fuel storage solutions and we’re inspired by, and driven to contribute to, the eight most relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals. These help us to define and categorize our activities so we can play our part in creating a fairer and better world.
Our sustainable strategy focuses on the issues that have the potential to influence better ways of working, setting best practice for our products, our processes and our people. We’re committed to finding the most efficient storage solutions and greener fuels, to improve the world for ourselves and those we serve.
Clem Connor CEO
Our number one priority is storing fuel safely. Our customers rely on our products and services to deliver efficient storage and minimize environmental impact, often in the planet’s most harsh and testing environments.
That’s why all of our tanks in the field are double-walled, making them more secure, more durable, and thanks to our continued adoption of steel, more recyclable. That means: less leakage, no corrosion, and a product lifespan in excess of a decade that reduces waste when compared to alternative solutions. Additionally, our cubed design means our product can be stacked for transportation, meaning fewer deliveries, and lower carbon emissions. We’re proud to say that we have over 80,000 double-walled tanks in the field storing fuel safely, and preventing 20 million gallons of fuel from leakage.
We’re also focused on helping our customers embrace cleaner, greener fuel usage, by developing storage solutions designed to work with the next generation of commercial fuels, including biodiesel and renewable diesel that can reduce CO2 emissions up to 85%. All of our tanks and pump solutions can work with renewable diesel including our TransCube Global tank.
But most of all, we’re proud of our solutions’ track record in disaster relief over the past half-century, with over 12,000 tanks used to respond when communities and governments have needed them most. Our sustainable fuel tanks have shown that wherever they’re needed, they’re ready.
We’re committed to reducing our waste, and promoting recycling of any and all materials that form part of our manufacturing processes.
As a company, we’re adopting new initiatives to reduce waste, using recycled materials for our secure packaging, such as recycled rubber, and reducing the amount of plastic wrap we use for the 10,000+ products we manufacture every year.
Measurement is at the heart of our efforts to drive more sustainable processes. It’s led us to reduce our overall carbon emissions by adopting low-energy lighting and more efficient heating in our global facilities. It’s led us to negotiate greener practices with our key vendors, reducing the amount of plastics used in our supply chain. And it’s led to new measurement techniques for our own energy and water consumption – something that will help us to benchmark our baseline, and set new sustainability targets for the years to come.
We are committed to improving quality and standards throughout our organisation and supply chain. We are ISO9001 certified and have a top-down led commitment to make sure best practice and standards are adhered to within our supply chain – we have in place a supplier compliance framework and conduct regular audits of key suppliers to ensure our standards are met.
Most excitingly, we are fully ISO14001 certified in the UK, and on the way to gaining accreditation at our sites in North America and Europe. This initiative will help us continue to drive improvements in our environmental performance.
We’re proud to say that Western Global is an accredited Investor in People, and a certified Great Place to Work, officially recognised for both since 2019.
That’s because we recognise the skills and culture needed to better help our customers tomorrow, starts with us today. Last year alone we invested over $200,000 on upskilling and reskilling our colleagues, through digital learning platforms and dedicated development plans, from soft-skill development to extensive health and safety operator training.
We also actively encourage personal development, by providing support to our colleagues with their further educational needs, such as professional qualifications and degrees. Additionally, we support apprenticeships throughout our workshops and in key support functions such as IT, Marketing and HR.
As part of our drive to build a safety-first culture, we’re constantly creating and developing new health and safety initiatives to help our teams come to work safely, enjoy a safer working environment, and get home safely at the end of each and every day. This includes delivering safety talks to customers and colleagues around the world to increase awareness and expertise in site safety. We’re proud to have achieved ISO45001 certification, and we’re committed to delivering more training to drive a safety-first culture at every one of our locations around the world.
We’re driven by five corporate values that define who we are: Teamwork, Openness, Passion, Integrity and Celebrating Success. They’re values we all share as colleagues, motivating us to deliver better for our customers, our communities, and each other, every day.
