Extreme Test Series -  The Drop

Our TransCube Global fuel tanks are drop tested from 4-feet to ensure they meet industry standards.

But they’re engineered to far exceed anything that kind of test can throw at them. So we decided to up the game a bit, and increase the stakes twentyfold, as part of our new Extreme Test Series.

These tough tanks are trusted by Powergen and construction firms across the US and Canada to transport and dispense fuel safely in harsh conditions. They’re also popular on rental fleets, where the kit doesn’t receive much love and attention. But what would happen if we sent a 250-gallon tank into freefall, 80 feet above a concrete container yard?

But what would happen if we sent a 250-gallon tank into freefall, 80 feet above a concrete container yard?

We hoisted a popular 10TCG model weighing in at over 3,000lbs high in the air using its built-in corner brackets and released it to gravity. These storage units feature a galvanized frame to protect against bumps and scratches on job sites, but this test would be tougher. What kind of condition would this cube be in after impact, and would the bunded construction and inner tank maintain its pressure?

The 45 x 52-inch fully-bunded steel tank hit the ground at over 40mph. When the dust cleared, the primary tank and secondary containment had no leaks, and testing showed zero loss in tank pressure.

In a world where compliance is tougher than ever, it’s reassuring to know quality counts and that your fuel supply will be ready for anything, however tough the test.

Design approvals: UL142, CAN/ULC-S601, US DOT, UN-IBC, TRANSPORT CANADA, NFPA30
