Western Global FUEL Tank Selection Guide

Our fuel tanks keep businesses and equipment running for a variety of industries: Fuel distribution, construction, rental and mining, to name a few. No matter the industry, the benefits of a Western Global tank remain the same: It’s durable, secure, turnkey bulk fuel storage. You just have to add fuel.

Looking to purchase or rent a Western Global tank? This guide can help you select the right tank for your needs.

What kind of fuel tank do I need?

Western Global offers four main product lines, with some additional models for specialized applications:

Small tanks (less than 2,000 gallons)

Large tanks (2,000-19,000 gallons)

These tanks are used across industries, but some are better suited for certain applications. Regardless of which industry you work in, there are a few key questions to consider when choosing the right solution:

  • What kind of site will the tank be on? The needs for a bridge erection project vs. data center construction can vary quite a bit.
  • What types of equipment will you be fueling?  Whether you’re looking to extend runtime with generators or refuel earth-moving equipment, this is an important factor to consider, particularly when it comes to accessories.
  • Do you need a tank that can be easily moved around a jobsite or transported on the road? We offer tanks designed to be more mobile as well as stationary tanks.
  • How much fuel do I anticipate needing each week? This plays a big part in determining the tank size — or how many tanks — you’ll need.

So how do these questions lead you to the right storage solution? Here are a couple examples:

Application: General contractor on a megasite using 15,000 gallons a week to refuel equipment and extend generator runtime.

Possible solution: TransTank Pro plus small tanks and a Mobile Refueler will keep the jobsite running smoothly. The TransTank offers the large capacity needed for the site, while the smaller tanks are situated in different areas for easier equipment fueling. The Mobile Refueler transports fuel from the TransTank to top off the smaller tanks around the site.

Application: Fuel distributor who is looking to win a bid on a skyscraper construction project; tanks primarily used for extended generator and light runtime for around-the-clock work.

Possible solution: The TransCube with multiple feed/return ports is a good option because it has a smaller footprint than a large tank and can be hooked up to three generators, or other pieces of equipment, at any given time. We’ve written a full list of top considerations for buying a fuel tank.

Fuel Tanks for Construction: Application and Amount

When it comes to construction, the application and amount of fuel needed are key criteria for determining the best tank, because all Western Global tank lines are applicable for different site types and needs.

Fuel Tanks for Rental: High-Utilization Investment

Bulk fuel storage tanks are a popular item for rental houses because they are low-maintenance and have some of the highest utilization rates of any equipment in the yard.

The rental industry serves many different end markets, so we typically recommend carrying a variety of tank solutions with varying pump and feed/return options to match different applications. We work directly with rental partners to ensure that they have the right mix of configurations and access to quick service for turnkey solutions they can start renting quickly.

The most popular tanks in the rental space include:

Fuel Tanks for Mining: The bigger, the Better

For most mining sites, the bigger the tank, the better! Because of the long-term nature of mining sites and the massive equipment or number of generators to be fueled, our larger tanks are the norm for mining applications.

Both our EnviroCube and TransTank Pro are good options for mining sites.

Two other products could come in handy on a mining jobsite:

  • Mobile Refuelers transport fuel from the large tanks to equipment in the field that is harder to move.
  • DEFCubes allow sites to also buy DEF in bulk (up to 550 gallons per tank) in a fit-for-purpose, rugged-built tank and store it alongside fuel tanks to create a fuel island — a one-stop shop for diesel equipment fueling needs.

Bulk fuel storage tanks for any industry

No matter your industry, we have the right tank configuration to meet your bulk fuel storage needs. You can buy some of our smaller tanks online, or connect with us directly to talk about your upcoming project.
