Missouri, USA
Airport fueling
Customized FuelCubes
Solar-powered pumps
Faced with new environmental regulations, Kiesel, Missouri was asked by an airport customer to upgrade their onsite refueling. They turned to us for a solution that was not simply ready for today, but one which exceeded compliance to future-proof the investment.
The airport, serving 90 domestic and international destinations, relied on gravity-fed cylindrical tanks to refuel onsite trucking equipment. They came to us with an unusual set of challenges – to supply something that would meet stringent new standards, in a limited amount of space, with lower maintenance costs – and dispense fuel reliably using its own power source.
Our in-house operations team loves a challenge – and set about developing a custom configuration to go above and beyond their technical wishlist.
We supplied modified 1,000-gallon FuelCubes, featuring built-in weatherproof containment berms. This eliminates the ongoing maintenance cost of pumping out the containment basin. The units occupy a surprisingly small footprint and meet environmental standards such as UL142 and NFPA30A. We fine-tuned the solution to include features like auto-shut-off nozzles to reduce fuel spills. Whilst tailored to an exact customer requirement, it’s based on the proven technology of one of our most popular products – so demanding lead times weren’t an issue.
The finishing touch was to configure solar panels to drive the pumps, which as well as delivering operational savings, meant the airport could choose where to install the tanks, without worrying about running conduit over an 800-acre site to power to them.
