A Sustainability Focus in the Northwest
Based in Richland, Washington, Christensen USA is a leading distributor of fuels, lubricants and propane across the Pacific Northwest. As part of its fuel business, Christensen started offering customers Renewable Diesel (also known as RD or R99) as an alternative to petroleum diesel in 2023. Since its introduction, Christensen has seen significant growth in sales of Renewable Diesel, from 300,000 gallons sold in 2023 to 1.7 million gallons sold in 2024.
Christensen sees this growth as driven by regulatory measures at state and local levels, and only expects the demand for Renewable Diesel to increase in the future. Renewable diesel has the advantage of being a “drop-in” solution for most existing diesel equipment – but with far less emissions and no sacrifice in performance.
However, one of the key hurdles Christensen faced in providing customers with Renewable Diesel was the safe and secure storage of the fuel on customers’ sites. Enter Western Global fuel tanks.

After searching for the right product, Christensen found the ideal fuel storage solution for Renewable Diesel in Western Global tanks, which now play a key role in its operations, with more than 100 tanks in regular use.
“Every one of our drivers delivering Renewable Diesel with tanks — Western Global is what they’re working with,” Miller says.
The products utilized by Christensen include the flexible TransCube for transportable applications, as well as the compact and stationary FuelCube.These fuel tanks provide customers with renewable fuel storage solutions to meet their jobsite needs. Renewable Diesel is a drop-in fuel alternative, and Western Global has certified its tanks as suitable for storing it. This ensures that Christensen can provide their customers with safe and secure fuel storage.
“It doesn’t matter which you put in there; the tanks work just as fine for Renewable Diesel as they do for regular diesel,” Miller says.
The Western Global tanks in Christensen’s fleet are paired with fuel monitoring systems and Christensen’s mobile app for real-time fuel management. This enables Christensen to plan deliveries for maximum efficiency, reducing unnecessary delivery road miles and minimizing customer downtime.
The double-walled design of Western Global’s tanks provides Christensen and its customers with environmentally secure and durable Renewable Diesel storage.
