North America Engineering Projects Team Lead-Canada

LOCATION

Winnipeg – Manitoba – Canada

THE ROLE

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for all stages of product/specifications, from research and development to design and fabrication/manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning.

You will also be providing efficient solutions to the development of processes and products, ranging from a variety of pumping package solutions, small fuel storage solutions to large fuel farms facilities. Working directly and communicating effectively with project management, business development managers, production team and clients with high professional acumen.

 

The main responsibilities will include:

Technical 

  • Hands-on
    • Supporting the team with complex questions and queries
    • Becoming the SolidWorks/AutoCAD superuser
    • Ensuring the accuracy of production engineering procedures and documentation

Project Management 

  • Strategic focus
    • Reviewing and analyzing proposals to determine if the benefits justify the resource investment
    • Overseeing complex engineering projects while balancing managerial responsibilities
    • Understanding the commercial considerations when reviewing and project planning

Team Leadership

  • Performance
    • Coordinating and defining the activities within your team in consideration of priority and capabilities
    • Managing and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) for the North American (NA) engineering team
    • Using expert knowledge and technical leadership to guide, support and develop the team capacities
  • People Management
    • Coaching and training the team in areas that will drive KPIs
    • Keeping the Global Engineering Manager up to date with FSG project workload to ensure the global team operates effectively

Product Development

  • Participating in project design and review tasks
  • Working with the Global Engineering Manager to lead the processes for continuous improvement
  • Working with the Operations and Quality Manager to review, develop and improve designs

Support 

  • Technical sales support
    • Staying up to date on any technology changes that may benefit the manufacturing design

THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate for this role will need to possess the following qualifications and experience:

Required Attributes:

  • High levels of skill, understanding and working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Effective project management capabilities
  • Very technically minded
  • Eng certified in any Canadian Province ideally Manitoba
  • Previous team leadership experience
  • Appreciation and understanding of commercial decision-making
  • Financial management understanding
  • Willing to travel internationally
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong sense or priority and initiative
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Experience in engineering manufacturing

Desired Attributes:

  • Previous experience in fuel tank design and construction techniques
  • Understanding of pumping systems and fluid dynamics
  • Project management qualification
