Transcube Fuels NY Bridge Project
A $3.9 Billion bridge construction project that’s estimated to take 5 years to complete.
The customer needed a way to safely and efficiently fuel machinery located on barges spread across a river. Machinery and equipment included generators, lights towers, and an assortment of cranes. Environmental concerns were top of mind as local regulations and standards were strictly being enforced. The customer considered using a fuel barge to travel around to each barge to fuel all machinery. However, this type of fueling solution would have to fuel over open water which would require costly specialized training and permits.
Western Global supplied 100+ TransCube fuel storage tanks to solve the projects fuel storage needs. The tanks supplied were a wide range of capacities, with the bulk of the units consisting of the 30TCG 793 gallon model. With integral 110% containment and its transportable design, the TransCube was the only tank considered that met environmental requirements of the project. The TransCube was designed with full load lifting eyes, enabling the tank to be craned or lifted onto logistically challenging sites.
Strategically placing fuel tanks on barges eliminated the customer’s need to wait for fuel deliveries, allowing them to fuel their machinery when needed and truly minimize their downtime. Tanks are filled on land and transported full to each barge, where they swap the empty tank for a full one. This approach eliminated the need for fueling over open waters and allowed the customer to avoid the extra cost of special training and permits associated with operating a fuel barge.
